We will continue to work on Viva el Español during these 3 sessions.

Our fist session is as follows:

Talking about the weather and the seasons
  • Talk about the different kinds of weather
  • Talk about the seasons
  • Talk about what you like and dislike
  • Use descriptive words to name the things you like

All of the classes will include instruction time, game time, dialogue time and craft ( if time allows).

CLASS UPDATE 9-21-09




Hola,


We began our new year by reviewing colors.  I found this old post from last year's class that I thought would be very helpful to you as you review.


Vocabulary- The kids have been reviewing the shapes and colors. They have remembered a great deal. The colors that we have reviewed are:
  • rojo/a
  • anaranjado/a
  • amarillo/a
  • negro/a
  • gris
  • verde
  • azul
  • blanco/a
  • rosa/ rosada
  • cafè/ màrron
The shapes are:
  • el cuadrado
  • el trìangulo

We continued to work on Unidad 2. The following objectives have been covered:
  • Learn the names of colors and shapes
  • Identify different animals.
Here are the Colors we have learned

Spanish Vocabulary, Weather, Colors, Shapes etc.



Weather-


Last week I introduced the weather with a song. This week we sang the song again and this time the kids had the lyrics to the song. This weather song is very good at teaching kids about the weather. Please visit the weather link to hear the proper pronunciation on a daily basis.

TPR-VERB REVIEW-
  • We reviewed the following TPR Verbs:
  1. ir- to go ve- you go vayan- you all go
  2. mirar- to see mira- look miren- you all look
  3. escribir- to write escribe- you write escriban- you all write
  4. sacar- to take our saca- you take out saquen- you all take out
Unidad 2-
  • In this unit this week I introduced them to the following vocabulary terms:
  1. Colors-Colors
  2. Shapes-Shapes
  • We cut out shapes from various different colored construction paper.
  • We paired up to ask each other the following questions:
  1. ¿Que color es ?- Answer: Es el color ______
  2. ¿Que forma es? - Answer: La forma es el/ la ________
  3. ¿De que color es esta forma? - Answer- esta forma es de color _________
  • We learned that colors in Spanish can be either neutral, male or female. We will get into this a little later in the unit. For now, we will just practice with our word wall chart.

SPANISH TV FOR KIDS- I came across channel 9401 which is a Spanish channel for educational tv. In the morning it has shows for kids and in the afternoon, it has educational shows for older kids. This is the second station. If you have The Dish Network- Enjoy!

Unidad 1 Vocabulary, weather, days of week, numbers, classroom objects














Unidad 1- Finishing up



  • We finished with Unidad 1. We discussed how to make the articles the, a into the plural form. Pages 47-49

  1. El becomes los
  2. una becomes unas
  3. uno becomes unos
  • Don't forget the rules for making nouns plural

  1. Words that end in letters a, e, i,o,u add the letter S
  2. Words that end in a consonant add the letters es

  • To find out how many there are of something use the following questions:
  1. Cuàntos hay? Male things
  2. Cuàtas hay? Female things

  • When you want to know what something is plural :
  1. Què son estos ?
  • When you want to know who someone is plural
  1. Quiènes son?

Weather Song
Kids are learning the following phrases through this song:

  1. Què tiempo hace hoy? Hace sol.- Its sunny
  2. Què tiempo hace hoy? Età nublado- Its cloudy
  3. Què tiempo hace hoy? Està lloviendo- It is raining
  4. Què tiempo hace hoy? Està nevando- It is snowing
  5. Què tiempo hace hoy? Hace frìo- It is cold
  6. Què tiempo hace hoy? Hace calor- It is hot



Words:
  1. Sol means sun
  2. nublado means cloudy
  3. lloviendo means raining
  4. nevando- snowing

Phrases for Unidad 1 and Pronouns


  • The following phrases were introduced:
  1. ¿Què es esto?- What is this- Resonse_ Es ______( object) or Esto es ( object)
  2. ¿Què hay en el pupitre? What is in the desk- Response Hay( object)
  3. ¿Tienes un ______) - Do you have (object) Response- Si, tengo( object) or No, no tengo( object)
  • We pared up and practiced multiple dialogues using these phrases.
  • Please make sure that they practice at home.
Our Objective for next week will be to make nouns plural

Grammar Lesson-
  1. I introduced them to personal pronouns. First I reviewed with them what they are in English.
  2. I demonstrated the use of personal pronouns with the aid of the students and parent volunteers.
  3. We covered the following pronouns:
  4. yo- I
  5. èl- he
  6. ella- she
  7. tù- you informal
  8. usted- you formal
  9. nosotros- we male-
  10. nosotras- we female
  11. ellos- they male
  12. ellas- they female

Math Term Vocabulary





We continued to review numbers and in particular how to add, subtract, and multiply with numbers.

Mathematical terms

Students had to identify various math sentences but say them in Spanish. For example

  1. 1+ 6 = 7 uno màs seis son siete
  2. 11- 1= 10 once menos uno son diez
  3. 5x6= 30 cinco por seis son treinta
